Allo Allo? Nancy calling Part 8: Musee des Beaux Arts
September 6th 2006 00:09
Allo allo!
I think it’s about time to get arty again, so today I’m reviewing the Musée des Beaux Arts in Nancy (which in English is the Fine Arts Museum).
The Museum was constructed in 1793 in one of the rooms off Place Stanislas and has, in effect, watched Nancy develop into the town it is today. It is surrounded by walls which make a fortress from the 15th and 17th centuries. In 1999, it was renovated and extended to include a hall, temporary exhibition halls, a library, sections for young adults and kids and a variety of permanent shows from different cultures.
As well as these new additions, they have the traditional sort of museum exhibitions with work from Monet, Picasso and all these other contemporary artists who I’ve never heard of. There are also sculptures, paintings and graphic art.
The cubist painting: L'Accordéoniste by Pablo Picasso (1911) (This picture is part of the public domain and can be found at wikipedia.org)
The Museum is open every day except Tuesday from 10am to 6pm. It is open every day of the year except 1st January, 1st May, 14th July, 1st November and Christmas Day. It costs 6 euros to get in or 4 euros if you’re part of a group. If you’re a student, you can get in for free if you show a student card.
Ok. That’s it for today.
À demain
