Partying in Marseille
June 1st 2006 23:00
Bonjour tout le monde !
(Hi guys)
Today we’re going to say good bye to Marseille. Yes, I know everyone’s disappointed. = ( Before we do that though, we’re going to take a look at a few more of Marseille’s attractions and its vibrant nightlife.
Writing a travel blog is actually hard work. There are SO many different places to write about!! This city has so much to offer. I’ve explored some of these places in the past two weeks, but there’s so much more. There are several churches including the Église de Sacré Coeur and Notre Dame de la Garde, the centre of town (which I never mentioned in a post) and of course, the passion of every girl, SHOPPING!!!!!
To find out more about all these places (and the others), check out Lonely Planet and ist=1GP" target="_blank">Marseille Tourism, which are great resources full of useful information on Marseille.
Now, to the most important information you’ve all been waiting for: Marseille’s nightlife. When the sun goes down, Marseille comes alive and there is so much to see and do! The tourist information centre has heaps of regularly updated information about gigs and also gives you the opportunity to buy tickets. You can also check out Taktik, a free weekly magazine for Marseille, which has the latest info on vents around town.
There is something there to suit every taste, preference, whim and, most importantly, budget. You can choose anything from jazz, blues and country music to gay strip clubs, alternative theatre, fashion parades and ballet. Whatever floats your boat. Live music is a highlight at most of the clubs. Below are a few features:
- Café Julien – live bands play on weekend featuring reggae and rock ‘n’ roll.
- Casting Café – café complete with fashion parades by local designers each week. Drinks and meals served til 1am.
- May Be Blues – a blues and jazz club with free entry, but drink prices go up once the music starts playing
- New Cancan – Gay club with transvestite shows. Open from 11pm to 6am. (so you really can pull an “all-nighter”)
- La Samaritaine – popular bar with the young crowd.
As well as these fascinating highlights
- La Fabrique – according to Lonely Planet, it’s a “very hip bar-cum restaurant” They’ve also “thoughtfully provided board games…to play drinking games with.”
- Opéra de Marseille – for singing which isn’t dull or about soccer. (Love the joke. Unfortunately not my own. Thanks Lonely Planet.)
- Chocolat Théâtre – a trendy theatre with restaurant. Very cool showing events from “male strip-tease to avant-garde improvisations.” (Lonely Planet) Whatever you like I suppose…
- Les Variétés – this is apparently the only cinema in town, which shows films with subtitles.
For more info on opening times and contact details click here.
So, as you can see Marseille really is a vibrant and colourful city, to say the least. To really experience the ambiance, make sure you hit the town at least once!!
With that: Au Revoir Marseille! Next week, we’ll continue our trip around Provence!!
À lundi
(Until Monday)
