Tour de France: Stage 11: Tarbes to Val d'Aran
July 13th 2006 09:24
Bonjour tout le monde!
Stage 10 represented the first real mountain challenge for competitors in this year’s Tour, so we saw a whole new group of competitors finish in the top 10 of this stage. Juan Miguel Mercado of Spain won this stage, while Cyril Dessel of France now wears the yellow jersey. Robbie McEwen still has the green jersey and Michael Rogers has slipped to 6th in the overall standings.
Stage 11 is a ride, which goes for 207 kilometres from Tarbes in southern France to Val d’Aran in northern Spain. The Stage has 5 categorised climbs: Tarbes is located 325 metres above sea level and Val d’Aran is at 1830 metres. So, this stage is a pretty big climb!!!
The yellow dot is Tarbes (this picture is licensed under the GNU Agreement and can be found at wikipedia.org)
Tarbes is a town in the Hautes-Pyrénées département of the Gascony region. There isn’t much information around on Tarbes, but for more links click here. (This link will take you to Tarbes' official Tourism site, but it's in French)
Val d’Aran is a small valley located in the north-western part of Spain in Catalonia. It is one of the highest valleys in the Pyrenees Mountains.
That’s it for today. Hopefully, the Aussies can conquer the mountainous terrain.
À demain
