Tour de France: Stage 16: Bourg-d'Oisans to La Toussuire
July 19th 2006 01:06
Bonjour tout le monde!!
We’re down to the business end of the Tour now. 15 stages and a preliminary round down; 5 stages to go before the triumphant finish down the Champs Elysees in gay Paris.
But before we get there, I’m sure you’re probably interested in the results for Stage 15. Frank Schleck from Luxembourg finished first in a time of 4 hours, 52 minutes and 22 seconds. American Floyd Landis now has the maillot jaune (or yellow jersey). Aussies Cadel Evans and Michael Rogers are now positioned 7th and 8th overall respectively.
Stage 16 is another mountainous stage with 4 categorised climbs. It is 187 kilometres in length, starting in Bourg-d’Oisans and ending in La Toussuire.

Bourg-d’Oisans is another town in the Isère départment (like Alpes d’Huez from yesterday). The town is located in a valley created by the River Romanche. Apparently, it’s often a stop in the Tour de France because it sits at the bottom of the mountainous road which leads to Alpe d’Huez. For anyone interested, you can actually hire a bike from Bourg d’Oisans and ride up the infamous hill. When you reach the top, the tourist office can give you an official certificate (which costs 1 euro). If this is your thing, you can experience the calf-burning exercise of Stage 15. Bourg d’Oisans is surrounded by many famous ski resorts including Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes.
Today’s Stage ends at a place called La Toussuire. For all the latest information on this place, you can look up the official website here. (the address is http://www.la-toussuire.com/ )
That’s it for today. Until tomorrow
À demain
