Tour de France: Stage 18: Morzine to Mâcon
July 21st 2006 06:51
Bonjour tout le monde!!
American Floyd Landis won Stage 18 (after an apparently awful ride in Stage 17) and is now back in the running for overall honours in this year’s Tour de France. Landis is now in 3rd place. Yellow Jersey wearer Oscar Pereiro finished 7th in the stage and now leads second placed Carlos Sastre by 12 seconds! Aussie Cadel Evans finished 10th in yesterday’s stage, to maintain his position in 5th overall. Michael Rogers is in 10th place.
Stage 18 goes for 197 kilometres from Morzine to Mâcon. It has 3 categorised climbs.
I told you all about Morzine yesterday, so today’s post is about Mâcon. Mâcon is a town in the Bourgogne region and the capital of the Saône-et-Loire département. It can be found north of Lyon on the bank of the Saône River.

Mâcon’s origins can be found all the way back in the 2nd century BC with the town Matisco. It was a busy cross road between the French Kingdom and the Roman Empire. It was a centre for the French Resistance during World War 2.
The main attractions in Mâcon are the Saint-Vincent Cathedral, the Saint-Pierre Cathedral, the Saint Laurent Bridge, the Town Hall and much much more!!!

That’s it for today. GO Cadel!!!
À demain
