Tour de France: Stage P: Strasbourg
July 1st 2006 08:25
Bonjour tout le monde!!
(Hi everyone)
And they're off and racing in this year's Tour de France!!! Stage P which takes place today (July 1). The Tour this year (as it has for many years) kicks off in Strasbourg. As is customary, the cyclists first complete a flat stage as an individual time trial (known as the Prologue. Hence the 'P'). It is also relatively short - only 7 kilometres in length!!!! I can scarcely imagine riding a bike for 7kms let alone 185 kilometres: the length of tomorrow's first stage around Strasbourg.

The Tour starts in France tonight (which is morning over there). There's already been a HUGE drugs scandal with one team withdrawing and an Aussie being questioned by Spanish police. (It's all over the news.)
As today is only a warm up, I will withhold all my interesting info on Strasbourg until tomorrow.
For information about the Tour, they have a running times and positions at the official website: www.letour.fr (click on the English version link) and Wikipedia is also running an article which has detailed descriptions of each stage and little pictures which show each phases' geography. (There's are taken from the official site)
Ok. That's it from me today. See you tomorrow when it starts for real.
À demain
Melinda
P.S there is another Aussie who is rated as a good chance for winning the Tour. (all on Wikipedia) Maybe he can go all the way!!!!

That's a great photo - really captures the action of the event.
I'll have to make sure that when i come to review France (under Travel Europe) - where I will actually be in October - I don't cover stuff you've already mentioned! I'm sure there's enough of France to go around....
Bon chance!

There is so much to see and do in France, I'm sure there's enough to go around. Feel free to review places I've been to. You might be able to recommend a few different places and give some more tips!!!!
