Vive in a Different France: New Caledonia Part 6
August 13th 2006 23:03
Bonjour tout le monde!
When I started this series on New Caledonia, all I really knew was how to say the tourism slogan correctly and its capital is Nouméa.
Nouméa is the hub of activity in New Caledonia. It is located on the south-western side of the country’s main island, La Grande Terre. The majority of the island’s population can be found there. It has been called the most westernised city in the Pacific and is recognised as one of the fastest growing cities in the area.
It combines (to use a cliché) “the best of both worlds”. You can experience the pleasures of island living, the excitement of the French Riviera and the charm of a provincial town. (Well, that is 3 worlds...)
A view of Noumea from space (this picture was taken by NASA on 13th September 2003, is public domain and can be found at wikipedia.org)
Nouméa is apparently a great place for shopping, so make sure you leave plenty of room in the suitcase!!

See you tomorrow when I’ll have more information on New Caledonia
À demain
